7 Top Tips from Gleaning Other’s Advice!
It’s that time of year.
Graduations bring advice for graduates beginning the next chapter of their lives.
And there is a lot of it!
Over the last week, two articles especially resonated with me and I have selected a few of the tips that I think are especially important.
“Whatever success I’ve had in life has had more to do with my knowing how to deal with my not knowing, rather than what I know,” Dalio told CNBC Make It while speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in January.
People with These 3 Skills Will Be Successful
1 — Open-mindedness
Seek out and learn from differing opinions.
“Go to find the smartest people who disagree with you the most to stress test your thinking, to learn,” Dalio told CNBC Make It adding: “If they disagree, then the conversation in that disagreement will be enlightening. That’s the quickest way to get an education.”
2 — Tech-friendliness
In today’s world, this is simply a must! Stay current, stay relevant and anticipate where trends are heading — diligently and consistently. Do not listen to the “noise” of others telling you it won’t matter, etc.
“The algorithms were able to process much more information than I was able to see or process individually,” Dalio said.

These tips are important to everyone, and the earlier you understand and embrace them, the better!
2 — Social networks matter
Professionally, it starts with LinkedIn. In person and on-line — spend time on your social networks!
“The most successful people tend to have the broadest and most diverse social networks. The more time and effort you put into nurturing your social networks, the more successful you are likely to be.”
“Build relationships, add value, gain trust”
I read this recently and believe it is a framework that will never fail you. If commit to this and are consistent, it will pay life long dividends!
3 — Sacrificing your health for success or wealth isn’t worth it
Period.
This is a tough to learn, especially when you’re young. Find the balance that works for you and keep your priorities in line. You will work very hard and you need to make sure your health is always a priority!
5 — Never stop learning
“With the rate at which technologies are changing today, if you decide you are “done” learning, you will be left behind within a matter of years. The idea that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks is blatantly false, and you will never regret having invested in your mind by learning something new.”
Your formal education may be over, but you have to continually learn and invest in yourself. The price for not doing so will be brutual!
7 — You can go fast alone, but you can go farther together
“It’s true: Teamwork makes the dream work.”
Collaboration skills and an expansive network are imperative today. It is easy, as well as important, to build a network of expertise that you can tap into (see #2).
9 — Failure is not an end
Embrace failure!
Learn from it and move forward
“ If you give up when you fail, you’ll never learn anything. Instead, look at failure as an opportunity, as the beginning of a new journey. If you do, you’re much more likely to try again and succeed at something else.”
