I had this question last week, so here it is — short and sweet. Demonstrated on the iPhone.

Open the Safari Browser

  • Tap the “Tabs” icon
iPhone — Tap the Tabs icon
  • Press and HOLD the “Done” item — a sub-menu will appear.
iPhone — Press and HOLD “Done”
  • Tap “Close…Tabs” — voila, done.
iPhone — Tap “Close…Tabs”

It’s easy once you know how!

Same process on the iPad, but “Tab’s” is on the top right of the screen!
