There’s An Easier Way… (Windows Search Part 2)

My Alternative to Windows Search

MS Excel Start Screen with Recent files displayed

The Usual Process

Most professionals use Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) everyday and deal with digital files in the form of PDF documents.

  • Or, open Excel, select a file from the “Recent Workbooks” list.

An Alternative Workflow

I outline my workflow below. There are two key considerations to remember:

  • Finding the file MUST BE easy. Literally, I want to spend as little time as possible finding and opening files.

What do the Search Results Look Like?

  • Excel
Search results — Excel files in descending Date order with Preview screen
Selected file from Search results with Right-Click Menu
Search results — Word files in descending Date order with Preview screen
Search results — PowerPoint files in descending Date order with Preview screen
Search results —PDF files in descending Date order with Preview screen
Search results — Gmail emails in descending Date order with Preview screen

Conclusion

So, as I hope you see, there IS an easier way.
